This resource is excellent for introducing and preparing for Area Model Multiplication, reviewing, or practicing it because it helps students build the foundation they need to learn the Area Model for Multiplication.
Students will represent a variety of multiplication problems by creating a digital area model (with Base Ten Blocks) and will use that model to find the solution to the multiplication problem. This slideshow is compatible with Google Classroom. Students will make a copy and fill it out, then turn it in.
Included:
-Example Problem
-Computer Shortcuts Page
-7 Unique Math Problems based on fun axolotl facts
-Answer Key (coming soon!)
Why use this resource? The variety of Math problems and the digital nature of this practice are similar to what students may encounter on a state test. Questions include word problems, equations, and images. This resource can be used as a bridge between using physical base-ten blocks, and solving multiplication problems abstractly with strategies such as partial products, or the standard algorithm. It is excellent preparation for introducing the area model to students. Technology can be engaging for many students and this practice will hone in their computer shortcut skills and prepare them for an ever-evolving digital world. It is also 100% axolotl themed. Each multiplication problem is based off an axolotl facts and there are cute axolotls scattered throughout the whole assignment.
My hope is that this resource makes Math fun for your students.
Enjoy!
