Each lesson plan focuses on determining the theme of the text. The actions to determine the theme vary by story. Read aloud questions in the lesson plans promote the collection of text evidence to meet the objective after reading the story.

Lesson Objectives:

-Gleam and Glow: Students will be able to determine the theme of Gleam and Glow by making inferences from the illustrations and text about the characters’ responses to the problem.

-Train to Somewhere: Students will be able to determine the theme of Train to Somewhere by analyzing character traits, motivations, and actions.

-One Green Apple: Students will be able to determine the theme of One Green Apple by analyzing characters’ actions.

-The Memory String: Students will be able to determine the theme of The Memory String by analyzing characters’ traits and actions.

-The Wall: Students will be able to determine the theme of The Wall by analyzing how characters are affected by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

I have only used the Train to Somewhere resources, but I LOVED them. I love Eve Bunting's books, and this recourse so far has paired wonderfully. I am so excited to use this resource with the other texts. I would highly recommend this resource.
