Back to School Science - Scientific Method Lab Activities - Look no further! These three scientific method labs are SPOT ON for middle school! Easy for you... fun for them!


Here are three scientific method lab activities to start your year off with a bang!

Scientific Method Lab Activity #1 - Drops on a Penny

Materials: pennies, droppers, cups of water, paper towels

Time: 40 minutes

Best grade level: 6th

Possible grades: 5th - 8th

Scientific Method Lab Activity #2 - Spring a Leak?

Materials: Plastic sandwich bags, sharp wooden pencils, water, paper towels

Time: 20-25 minutes

Best grade level: 7th

Possible grades: 6th - 9th

Scientific Method Lab Activity #3 -Where the Green Grass Grows

Materials: Plastic cups, potting soil, grass seed, water

Time: 20 minutes the first day, 5 minutes on days 2, 3, and 4. Day 5: 20 minutes

Best grade level: 7th

Possible grades: 4th - 9th

**Update 7/3/19** I've added updated lab sheets for drops on a penny and where the green grass grows. There is now more information on lab sheets so that students are not required to write as much.

Update 7/11/2020** Updated lab sheets for a newer, more sleek appearance. Still the same great activities! I'm still using them!

Update 3/26/2022**Updated appearance. My students STILL love these!
