Description

My students love what we call story problems, as opposed to word problems. Story problems take one scenario and ask several different math questions from the same "story." It helps students build up skills needed for multistep problems and encourages a more realistic life application.

This worksheet is one such math story problem set. It takes a girl's wish to bake cookies and looks at all the math involved in purchasing the ingredients, such as debating best value versus cheapest price and budgeting for limited funds. Students have to determine if there is a way she can purchase everything needed.

Fun and fast math practice with adding and subtracting decimals and calculating unit rate. Can assign as homework, substitute activity, or topic review. Great for math centers!

Fluently add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit decimals using the standard algorithm for each operation.
Understand the concept of a unit rate 𝘢/𝘣 associated with a ratio 𝘢:𝘣 with 𝘣 ≠ 0, and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship. For example, “This recipe has a ratio of 3 cups of flour to 4 cups of sugar, so there is 3/4 cup of flour for each cup of sugar.” “We paid $75 for 15 hamburgers, which is a rate of $5 per hamburger.”
