"My students loved this resource. I used it during the few days before Thanksgiving. We had a parade in class before we were dismissed. It was so cute to see all my students proud of their float and to learn about the history of Macy's Day parade. "

Description

This activity was recreated to be paired with the book "Balloons Over Broadway" by Melissa Sweet. My student have completed this every year for the past 3 years and have so much fun creating their own balloon for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I have included some balloons I have created for my students over the past few years (especially in the younger grades) to help them create "balloons" that we have hung in the hallway, on the bulletin board, or in the classroom. On the first page of balloons there is a blank circle for children to create their own character if they wish.

Additionally, The activity helps support teaching story sequencing, by having children recall and retell what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. There is an option to have children write or draw what happens in each part of the story depending on the level of the child.

These designs are for inspiration because they don't fit the balloon size. It is for more advanced students.

Sorry for the confusion - these designs were created to take the place of balloons. There are not intended to be attached to balloons.

This is our 3rd year with Balloons Over Broadway. I was happy to add these sketches and activities to my list of choices to do with my Firsties.
