BASIC CONCEPTS TASK BOXES

This product includes task boxes that target understanding basic concepts (e.g., hot/cold, big/small, wet/dry).

What are task boxes?

Task boxes are small boxes or bags that include the materials required to complete one activity. Activities are simple and can be completed in a short amount of time with minimal support. Incorporating task boxes into the classroom develops independence, attention/focus, language skills, and initiation/task completion.

There are 2 activities included to target basic concepts:

1) Sorting activity – students must sort pictures according to the basic concept (e.g., sorting pictures of items into “hot” and “cold.”)

2) Following directions activity – students must circle the picture (from 4 choices) that represents the given concept (e.g., Circle the item that is HOT).

How to prepare the task boxes:

-Print pages 5 to 49 single sided

-Cut out the images and laminate for durability

-Use Velcro or sticky tac for the sorting images

-Determine how to organize your task boxes

-Add a dry erase marker to the following directions boxes

My students loved this resource; they were very engaged. We used it in various ways: early finishers could choose this activity, for instance, as well as independent work and free-choice time.

This is a cute activity to help teach some very basic concepts. My students enjoyed choosing the correct picture to go with the concept and filling up the card.
