Description
This guide helps students to do basic spelling, punctuation, and capitalization corrections on their own work, or the work of peers. This is a great tool for writers who are just beginning to edit and revise. I would have each student keep this in a page protector and pull it out each time they are going to edit. The second page gives examples of how to use common proofreading symbols and also encourages students to color code. This helps to provide a clear visual of not only where each kind of error is, but also what are the most common errors they are making. I am also a fan of having a student read their work at least three times focusing on a different type of error each time. This helps the student analyze their work more carefully, catch more errors, and prevent themselves from getting overwhelmed.
