Exit ticket assessment for basic fractions, aligned with Utah and Common Core standard 3.NF.1 which reads as follows:
Standard 3.NF.1
Understand that a unit fraction has a numerator of one and a non-zero denominator.
- Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by one part when a whole is partitioned into b equal parts.
- Understand a fraction a/b as the quantity formed by a parts of size 1/b. For example: 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 3/4.
This assessment covers the entire standard, as well as identifies students exceeding the standard. It is on half a page to save paper. It is designed to take a very short time so as to be given as a formative assessment to guide whole-group or intervention instruction.
