Description

This 3rd-grade Basketball Math Game is the perfect activity to review math skills during March to celebrate the basketball tournament and have some Math Madness! This no-prep Google slides activity is ready to go and includes a teacher answer key and student recording sheet. This game is a great way to have some basketball-themed fun while keeping students engaged in learning.

Students will enjoy selecting points. The point positions change after each question so it is anyone's game until the end! You can even have the winning team do their best basketball cheer to celebrate!

How do you play?

1. Divide students into equal teams

2. ALL students will work on ALL the problems for a chance to steal! (and to increase practice +engagement)

3. Students will have a minute to work through the problem independently

4. Groups will huddle together to agree upon the correct answer.

5. On their turn if the group has the correct answer they will choose an icon to reveal their points. (+4, +3, +2, +1 for the different types of basketball shots made)

6. If the team is incorrect the next team can have a chance to steal.

7. The team with the most points at the end wins!

What is included:

  • 20 questions Google Slides game with 20 answer slides
  • Printable Teacher Answer Key
  • Printable Student Recording Sheet for individual accountability.

These word problem questions are based on 3rd-grade common core math skills which cover:

  • multiplication word problems
  • division word problems
  • 3-digital addition with regrouping
  • 3-digit subtraction with borrowing
  • data graph questions
  • elapsed time question (missing start, missing end, elapsed time)
  • comparing fractions
  • finding area & perimeter
  • comparing fractions (same numerator or same denominator)
