Description

Not only does this activity give students a chance to practice their knowledge of data and statistics (mean, median, mode, range, quartiles, IQR, MAD) by using basketball data, but they also get a chance to move and gather their own data!

The practice pages can be used during a center, or as an assessment, but the activity having students collect data is best done as a whole class.

Included in this lesson:

•Actual basketball statistics that are used to find measures of center and variability, and create a box plot

•Practice determining measures of center and variability based on reading a box plot

•A class activity to gather data to then find measures of center and variability and to create a dot plot

•Answer Key

•A glossary of statistical terms

A great resource for students to practice boxplots. They loved the basketball connection and we even tied it in to our class basketball incentives.
