Bead racks facilitate the natural development of children's number sense. The beads encourage students to think in groups of fives and tens. There are 38 task cards that ask students to write the number of blue beads, the number of red beads, and the number of beads altogether. Then, there are additional task cards that ask students to simply write the total number of beads. The natural progression should be that students practice adding the different colored beads, and move towards automatic recognition of groups of numbers.
