Description

Many children struggle to form complex sentences when they speak and write. Help increase the complexity of your students writing and spoken sentences with direct teaching of how to use subordinating conjunctions.

The Because sentence board provides a great visual structure to help children understand where to put each clause in the sentence. The board has both kinds of sentences (e.g. "Because I...." or "I waited because..."). This helps them achieve a firmer and more flexible understanding of conjunctions.

This resource includes

Deck contains:

  • 12 drag and drop sentences with visual scaffolds
  • 8 multiple choice sentence finishers
  • 10 picture prompts to write your own sentence using because
  • 5 open answer sentence prompts (e.g. Because I....)
  • Cards autocorrect students answers so they can complete independently

I love the Aussie SLP Conjunctions series because they have 3 different types of activities that increase in difficulty. They all start out with manipulating two illustrated phrases according to where the target conjunction is in the sentence. Then a multiple choice cloze sentence activity is used. The child must comprehend the conjunction in context and forces the child to consider what answer would make sense. The last activity requires the child to formulate sentences with the supplied conjunction. Some of the items simply have blanks with the conjunction/dependent clause starting the sentence or in the middle to assure the student can properly formulate both types of sentences. Last there are blanks with pictures to formulate sentences with the conjunction.
