Description

Are your students having trouble deciding what are BIG problems (requiring teacher help) or SMALL problems (things they could solve on their own)? Mine were too, so I created this resource to use during our morning meetings.

In this PowerPoint resource, there are 22 slides with common classroom problems I thought of and typed up for you. Also, there is one customizable slide for you to type and add in any problems that you have seen in your own classroom that I did not include. All of the slides are editable in case you need to tweak them.

There are SO many uses for this resource (read how I used it below) including:

- Print slides and sort big vs small problem together as a class

- Print multiple copies and have students work in groups to sort them

- Print slides and put on an anchor chart, then brainstorm possible solutions

- Project slides digitally and have class discussion about the size of the problem and possible solutions

- AND many other uses!

Personally, I start by printing multiple copies and putting students into groups to sort them into the two categories of big vs small problem. Then, we come together as a class to discuss how they sorted them and why. I paste the most common classroom problems onto an anchor chart, and students help me brainstorm possible solutions. We hang this up in our room for students to then reference. It really helped my students to become independent problem solvers!
