Description
Perfect for remote or distance learning!
I use this activity in my biotechnology class to reinforce and illustrate the use of microarrays.
Before completing this activity I first have students watch the Khan Academy video on Microarrays
Students first watch a "click-through" animation that guides them through the overall process of hybridization and microarrays. The animation is accompanied by fill-in-the-blank questions and higher-level analysis questions.
Students then go to a virtual lab which goes through the process of making a DNA Chip, setting up a microarray, and analyzing results. Again there are basic fill-in-the-blank questions and critical thinking questions.
Included:
2 page student worksheet with links to online animations/virtual labs and 17 follow-up questions.
Answers to questions come directly from resources except for number 3- the answer is "reverse transcriptase."
