Description

Have your students use the Pythagorean Theorem to build a pyramid. Using tape and drinking straws your students will have to measure and calculate to create right triangles that combine to create a pyramid. Great for a station activity!

When I have done this activity in class it has been a hit! I usually have them work in groups or pairs and it takes about 30 minutes. It's a quick and easy STEM project!

This was an engaging resource where students are required to use the Pythagorean Theorem. They were motivated to measure and cut the straws accurately so their pyramid would connect well. We used colorful straws from the dollar store and they worked well. I hung up the finished products from my classroom ceiling! Lots of fun!!

My students LOVED this activity! We will use this every year from now on! We loved the real life application of Pythagorean Theorem and now will use the pyramids that we have built to find volume of pyramids (also an 8th grade standard.) Thank you!
