Description
In this final video of the Build Up series, we use the build up strategy to multiply by 7.
We start with a bar model then use an equation to demonstrate that 5 groups + 2 groups = 7 groups.

The Build Up strategy uses partial products to multiply. When students use alternative strategies, they develop flexibility with numbers that help them become more fluent mathematicians and more flexible problem solvers.
This resource emphasizes Math Practice Standard 7 (Make Use of Structure) to mastering math facts. With a universal design, it starts at a basic level and builds to more complex skills. The goal is for students to develop a strategy toolbox that they can apply to various problems in their math work.
This resource, like all Whiteboard Math products, heavily focus on Math Practice Standards 2 (Reason Abstractly and Quantitatively) and 4 (Model with Mathematics)
