Description

Teach students the structure of DNA with this student centered, cut and paste lesson. Students will use dice to randomly generate a 5-base DNA sequence, color a template strand according to their sequence, and then color, cut out and glue on the antiparallel, complimentary strand.

Concepts Covered

• DNA is a polymer

• A nucleotide is the monomer

• Structure of a nucleotide

• 4 Nitrogenous Bases (A, G, C & T)

• 3’ - 5’ direction

• Antiparallel

• Complimentary Base Pairing

Materials Needed: Student handouts, scissors, glue and coloring utensils.
