This community building project will foster meaningful discussions to help students get to know each other better. Set the stage and establish class norms with this Building a Positive Classroom Community Paper Bag Book! Community building activities are important to use all year, but especially at the beginning of the year.

HOW TEACHERS CAN USE THIS COMMUNITY BUILDING PROJECT:

The project offers multiple instructional activities for teaching and practicing qualities of a kind and inclusive classroom. It can be used one section at a time or in one sitting any time of year. Students outline what makes them special through guiding questions, interview a friend to learn about him/her, sort scenarios as friendship builders or breakers, write about the ideal classroom, research holidays, foods from various cultures, as well as clothing, and finally share how they will support their classmates and community. Be sure to check the images for a preview of the finished product.
