Description
This worksheet is meant to accompany the National Geographic documentary "Built for Mars: The Perseverance Rover", which can be found and streamed on Disney+ or other places online.
The documentary is 1 hour, 28 minutes long and I have found it to be an excellent video to give students a deeper understanding of the meticulous care engineers and flight technicians put into every tiny part of building a rover. The documentary does a phenomenal job of showing what a day looks like for flight technicians working on the rover and gives a real sense for the blood, sweat, and tears poured out on the incredibly complex piece of machinery. This documentary will not only build an understanding of how a rover mission is planned, but it may awaken an interest in engineering for students.
This worksheet to accompany the documentary asks both basic questions which require students to be paying attention and more advanced questions requiring students to think and apply what they saw in the video.
Additionally, it also includes an extension activity that teachers can choose to assign. The extension activity builds upon the information presented in the documentary and can be used as discussion starters, a small group activity, or a homework assignment.
