Description

Winter is the perfect season to introduce or review compound words! The materials included in this thematic unit can be used as group lessons, individual assignments, or at literacy centers. Making big words out of small words, making small words into big words, rhyming, and a variety of creative writing activities are sure to warm up your ELA lessons and keep your primary students interested and engaged! Literature links and musical moments are also included!

I usually spend one week focusing on the word work activities with my students, and then move onto the writing activities during our second week of our thematic study of all things snow-related!

Please check out the thorough product thumbnails preview to see the materials that are included:

  • Match the Word Part Mittens and Snowflakes
  • Build Strong Sentences with Compound Words
  • Rhyme with Compound Words
  • Word Sorts for BIRDBATH and SNOWBALL
  • Creative Writing Prompts and thematic writing paper to spark student stories about winter woods, snowmen, snowballs, gingerbread people, and magical snow globes.

An original fluency poem that I wrote entitled, "Snow Day," along with patterns for an art project and puppet-making activity are also included!

Thank you in advance for your thoughtful feedback on this product! It truly helps me improve and update my materials! I appreciate your suggestions and your patronage! If you enjoy this resource, you might also like:
