Description
Winter is the perfect season to introduce or review compound words! The materials included in this thematic unit can be used as group lessons, individual assignments, or at literacy centers. Making big words out of small words, making small words into big words, rhyming, and a variety of creative writing activities are sure to warm up your ELA lessons and keep your primary students interested and engaged! Literature links and musical moments are also included!
I usually spend one week focusing on the word work activities with my students, and then move onto the writing activities during our second week of our thematic study of all things snow-related!
