Description

This project covers many essential topics of Algebra 1. Students will develop a greater understanding of linear equations, two-way tables, proportions, rate of change, graphing, slope, y-intercept, solving for y, solving equations, finding profit, calculating revenue and expenses, calculating area and cost per square foot, solving word problems, and proportions. These topics are all covered with different worksheets so that you can pick and choose what topics you want to cover with your students! My kids really enjoyed being able to make business decisions that were supported by their mathematical knowledge and reasoning! Each student finished the project by creating a poster, presentation, or write-up on their project, and the rubric is included in this download. I hope you enjoy this project as much as my kids and I did!

I used the Business Math PBL to give students a real-world application of Algebra 1 concepts through budgeting, profit, and cost analysis. It challenged them to think critically and creatively while using equations and inequalities to make business decisions. Students were highly engaged and appreciated the chance to see how math connects to entrepreneurship.

I love the freedom it gave my students, but some students needed more guidance because they were overwhelmed by all of the choices.
