Make math time fun, interactive, and skill-building with these Butterfly Addition Playdough Mats!

Perfect for spring themes, small groups, math centers, or early finishers, this resource supports hands-on learning through play.

What’s included:

  • 34 playdough mats with butterfly designs
  • Addition facts with totals up to 10
  • Matching number cards for students to display the answer
  • Printable recording worksheet for students to show their work

How to use:

  • Students roll playdough balls to create spots on each butterfly wing
  • They model the addition problem visually, then find and place the correct total card
  • Students can say a simple rhyme to support oral language and memory
  • Record the number sentence on the included worksheet

You can also swap out playdough for dry erase markers or math manipulatives to suit your classroom setup. This activity helps students practice addition within 10 while strengthening fine motor skills and promoting number sense.

My Pre-K students had a wonderful time creating these butterfly addition problems by using the playdough. It was a huge hit with our students and definitely one of our favorite math activities we did during our insect unit. Such a cute and fun way to introduce addition!
