My students were helped by the CER Diagram form electing to use either side of the form and presented with the question, "Is cell phone use hazardous to your health" as well as five evidence sources assigned to collaborative groups where the form guided their data gathering and the format that I wanted the selected spokesperson to use in summarizing, citing, and discussing the scope of question, differing perspectives on "hazardous" and handling controversial or confounding assertions. It generated discussion and facilitated a group completion of the CER form together for the Evidence and Reasoning portions, and then a summative Claim completed individually.
