Description
Included in this booklet:
Cover sheet
Directions
20 math word problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
One page for students to create their own word problem
Print this out for students to use in small groups, whole class, or on their own.
Students will learn to break word problems apart by using the strategy CUBES. They will be able to decide what information is important, and what should be left out.
I suggest modeling how to do the first two problems with the class. Use colored pencils or crayons. Circle, underline, box, and eliminate the information with the designated colors.
The “solve” is black seeing as we want the students to do the math in pencil in case they make mistakes.
You can print the notebook out in full pages or in a booklet form on Adobe.

This was great practice for solving word problems.
My school already uses RACE in ELA, so CUBES in math is a great translation of the work we are already doing.
This was a great tool to use with my ENL students. I love the way it helps them break down the story problem. The pages were set up we ould easily figure out each problem.
