This memory game lends itself to small reading groups, with a focus on CVC blending, and includes an accountability piece.

Choose a focus for your memory game:
Matching initial sound
Matching medial sound
Matching final sound

~Cut word cards apart and flip upside down on the table.
~Give each student a copy of the picture board either laminated or in a page protector, as well as a dry erase marker.
~Student who’s turn it is, turns over two cards and blends the words for you. If the two words have matching initial, medial or final sounds, they keep the match.
~Optional: Other students try to blend in head and mark off picture that matches the words turned over by student – challenge them to try to have them marked off before the words are read aloud. (This will allow you to check in with them and keep them focused, even if it isn’t their turn.)
