Description

This calendar routine can be incorporated during a morning meeting where the day of the month and the day of the school year can be introduced. This helps for students to see the difference between the date and the days they have been in school, enhancing their number sense. To create a deeper meaning of the number, modeling how the number should look in word format is provided under the heading "write the number" (i.e. 22 - twenty-two) The ways to make a number heading is designed so that students can think about, see, and express how different numbers can be made (i.e. 22 - 20+2; 24-2; 10+10+2). This template can be printed off onto a variety of paper sources and placed onto a white board for easy erase, or can be printed off and laminated to be placed on a poster board for ease to move around the classroom.
