Description

Advanced English LitGuides provide a complete approach to advanced English instruction. This is one of 27 self-contained novel or play units that include a unit guide, lesson building strategies, support literature, plot/style quizzes, close-reading passages, AP style essays and tests, and examples of student work. Also included is a folder or folders of teaching strategies. These guides are available in .docx format so you can adapt them as you see fit.

Every year I ask my students to rank their favorite (and least favorite) novels or plays that we studied. Year after year, Catcher is in the top three, usually number one. Although Holden is over 70 now, his first person depiction of teenage angst and alienation still resonates with adolescents. I like to teach this short novel early in the year. It can pair with Bell Jar.
