Description

These 26 short passage cards will help students practice their understanding of cause and effect. Understanding cause and effect is a very difficult skill for students to understand both in life and in text. This set of task cards will ask students to either figure out a cause, or an effect in nonfiction text.

Multiple-choice questions are paired with opportunities for students to provide evidence for their answers. Both skills are practiced using these cards! These cards are perfect for distance learning, literacy centers, bell-ringer activities, formative assessments, or even as a whole-class using an online game center like Kahoot!

This gives teachers the added option of delivering distance learning materials to students. Both Google Forms and Boom Cards are available formats and easily integrate into Learning Management platforms such as Google Classrooms, Schoology, and Canvas. This option also includes the paper and pencil version to equip teachers with the ultimate delivery opportunity.

A few options to engage students in these task cards.

•Option #1 – Students try to help Cliff Fallin up a cliff before a storm hits. Each correct answer they get brings Cliff up the cliff to safety. A picture with an elevation chart is provided for teachers and/or students to mark the elevation as they work. This engaging twist motivates students to invest in the practice.

•Option #2 – If you don’t want to use the storyline, simply use the cards and have students compete to see who can climb the highest by adding the elevations earned for each correct answer.

•Option #3 – Use the task cards without the story or any competition. Simply print the cards, read the text, and answer the questions.

Remediation cards are provided with blank elevation spaces so teachers can fill in the elevation earned while students work.

Students are provided with an answer sheet. If they get the question correct, they circle the “Height Earned” for that question. If it is still a challenge, they don’t circle the "Height Earned.” This allows students to track their data.

A teacher answer key is included.

There are two different printing options: color and black-and-white. Simply cut along the guideline in the middle. Laminate so you can use them again and again.
