"I loved this lab. The materials and instructions were simple enough for the students to carry out independently. The analysis was straightforward and the students have a firm understanding of diffusion and osmosis. They also have a better understanding of indicators!"

Description

This EDITABLE lab helps students visualize the selective permeability of cell membranes. Students will determine what substances can cross a membrane, using a simple setup. This can be a tricky topic for students and this lab and questions help students determine what factors affect which substances can cross. I have included an answer key and teacher setup notes for an easy experience.

Materials:

  • Dialysis Tubing
  • Powdered Glucose
  • Powdered Starch
  • Water
  • Iodine
  • Glucose Strips
  • Beakers
  • Rubber Bands

I have uploaded this in both a Word document and a PDF so that you can feel free to modify and differentiate to meet your students' needs. Enjoy!
