Description

In this 33 slide PPT lab, students will use microscopes to look at three different types of cells: elodea, onion, and cheek.  Students will also use their cell phones to capture images of their slides under the microscope and then embed those cell images into the PPT to label appropriate cell parts and organelles that are visible.  Students will also use the PPT to explore background knowledge about characteristics of living organisms, cell theory, compare and contrast different types of cells.  Extension of learning research questions also include questions about classification, bacteria, primordial soup hypothesis, and ecosystems and interdependence, as well as anthropogenic effects.  You will need access to microscopes with 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives, toothpicks, slides, and liquid iodine in dropper bottles.
