Share

Description

Practice counting, categorizing by color and completing bar graphs with this Chanukah (Hannukah) themed worksheet.

Instead of writing the color names, the child is asked to color the dreidel in the legend, making the worksheet suitable even for children who don't know how to write yet.

Other words for dreidel are sevivon and spinning top.

What you'll need

  • a variety of dreidels
  • colored pencils, markers or crayons
  • a print-out of the worksheet

Background

When Antiochus outlawed Jewish practices, including Torah study, many Jews defied the decree. They continued to learn Torah but when they saw a Greek soldier approaching, they would hide the Torah scroll and take out their dreidels, pretending they had just been playing a game all along.

Today, dreidels are available in a variety of materials and colors.

When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.
