Lead your students in exercises designed to improve positivity and help recognize the everyday moments that bring us joy. This set includes three different calendar formats and two different styles of list pages for tracking the little joyful experiences of every single day. It also includes a mini notebook to help introduce the topic and get children thinking about the people, places, and things that make them happy. There are a number of ideas for encouraging entire families to participate in this project, including an interactive bulletin board, and special note cards for sharing notes with those people who bring us joy.
Monthly and Weekly Joy in Everyday Calendars - Use these calendars as a way to track the good things that happen every day. Print a calendar for each student to write their own positive moments, or print one calendar and encourage the class to come up with a moment each day that they all enjoyed. Monthly and weekly calendars are included so that you can decide which works best for your group.
Joy in Everyday List Sheets - If list-making works better for you than keeping a calendar, use the included lists to record everyday joys. These sheets are perfect for student use, they are also great to send home so that families can record positive moments together. Color and black and white versions are included.
Mini Joy in Everyday Notebooks - These little notebooks are a great way to introduce the Joy in Everyday concept. Each page includes a prompt that encourages children to think of different people, places, and things that bring them joy. These prompts inspire reflection and help children understand the question “what brings you joy?”
Depending on the age and ability levels of your students, the children can write and illustrate the pages on their own, or they can dictate the wording and then do their own illustrations. These books could also be put together and sent home for families to help the children complete, then shared as a show and tell opportunity.
Joy in Everyday Interactive Bulletin Board - This interactive bulletin board will inspire everyone who passes it. Print the lettering on colored paper, cut them out, and arrange them on your bulletin board. Then cut out a number of the bunting flags on colored paper and cut these out. Place the bunting flags in a basket with a couple of markers so that everyone (students, parents, teachers, staff, etc.) can write down something that has brought them joy that day. Leave extra push pins on the bulletin board so that the completed bunting flags can be added to the board.
You could run string across the board so that the flags can be placed along the strings, or you could put the flags up randomly to give it a more random, fringed look (diagram included).
"You Bring Me Joy" Notecards - Print these notecards on colored cardstock and cut them apart, then start writing. You can write special notes to your students or set the notes out in the classroom so that the children can write notes to each other, or to take home to family members. You could also leave a stack by your entry so that parents could write a note for their child when they drop them off.
