These slides begin by discussing the difference between character traits and character feelings in a Google Slide format. It then gives some examples of character traits, and the opportunity to determine appropriate traits that describe a variety of characters in short excerpts. Once students have completed this slide, I have required to you to read "“Last to Finish: A Story About the Smartest Boy in Math Class” on: https://www.getepic.com/, which is free right now! You have the option of assigning the entire file to them for distance learning, or if you decide to virtually meet with them, you have the option of presenting your screen and going through it along with them. Character Trait: nervous
Evidence: “As soon as Mrs. Topel starts the timer, my heart begin to pound, my hands begin to sweat, and then the worst thing happens..MY MIND FREEZES!” (pg. 9)
Character Trait: lonely
Evidence: On page 14, Max is by himself in the courtyard while everyone, even the preschoolers, are chanting “Max, Max, last in Math” to make fun of him.
Character Trait: brainy
Evidence: At the end of the story, Max’s teacher realizes that even though he has trouble with memorization, he has a great ability to understand how numbers work together. He is even asked to join the Math team! (pg. 27)
