Description
This lesson is a Standards Based Characterization Lesson that can be used as a worksheet, or as a multi day lesson for helping kids understand how characterization helps to support theme. Can be used with any mentor text!!!
The Standard, Success Criteria, and Rubric are all included in the lesson.
There are 3 parts to this lesson that follow the "I do, we do, you do" instructional model
1) a model worksheet where some of the blanks are filled in using a video short film example, "The Present." The link to the Youtube video is included in the directions of that slide. The idea is to model the example for the students by going over what is included in the chart and finishing the rest with whole class instruction.
2) the assignment for the students to do on their own-- can be printed as worksheet or done virtually
3) Rubric for assessment. Rubric can be seen in multiple ways. I had students write what Exceeds Expectations and Meets Expectations looks like and write it on their paper. Then they assessed themselves before submitting. I then was able to see through this self assessment where students were and where they were unsure of things. Otherwise, it can be used as a standard rubric
