Description
Videos 9 - 12
Unit 9: Staircases - Why Staircases are very potent mathematical constructions.
Unit 10: Mental Agility - An important ability to develop for later work, for example, with fractions and graphs.
Unit 11: Extended Staircases - Staircases can be extended beyond the first ten steps just as numbers can extend beyond ten to infinity.
Unit 12: Preparation for Multiplication - Each multiplication table has a distinct pattern that can be revealed by the rods.
Child's Play Math was originally created to introduce math concepts to young children, from preschool upwards, through play, games, open-ended-tasks, challenges and directed activities. The program utilizes Cuisenaire Rods. However it has been used effectively with children, and adults, of all ages who struggled to grasp math concepts the first time round. It has also proved effective in the context of special needs. Visually impaired children, for example, have no problem accessing the program due to the tactile nature of the rods.
A comprehensive manual is available from this site in PDF format - Child's Play Math 1&2
