Activities:
1. Dasher's Diner Menu Activity - adding decimals
Students look through a menu for Dasher's Diner and add up the different costs of items given on the printable page. Another page is included for students to shop around on their own and decide what they feel like eating...and then add the decimal amounts. You can make this activity more involved by bringing in real food or by having some students act as "waiters" or "waitresses". I have had so much fun with these menus!
2. Frosty's Finds Toy Shop Catalog Activity - adding and multiplying decimals
Students shop around in the Frosty's Finds catalog and add up the costs of the different items (similar to menu activity). The students will sometimes need to multiply decimals when buying multiple of the same item. Great practice for real life shopping! Make it more difficult by having them estimate before they buy!
3. Decimal War Game - comparing decimals
Good ole' war! Just like you played with cards growing up...except comparing decimal numbers instead of whole numbers!
4. Write the Room Activity - multiplying whole numbers
Students walk around the room and find clues which require them to solve multiplication problems with whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
5. Skill Practice Math Problems - adding and subtracting whole numbers
Skill practice for adding and subtracting whole numbers. If students get their answers correct, they will solve the answer to a Christmas joke/riddle!

This set of math activities is jam packed with fun games that will get kids moving and engaged in learning! The real world application is an added bonus! These would be perfect for fourth or fifth grade students around the holiday season.
