Description
A love of toys is universal, and your students will embrace learning math this holiday season as they Open a Toy Store! Activities in this Project Based Learning Math unit are excellent for differentiation in your classroom, and students can complete individually or as a collaborative project. In addition to opening a toy store, students will also have the opportunity to design their own toy!
This PBL unit incorporate 21st Century skills with challenging, engaging, and creative activities. There are lots of opportunities for differentiation, cooperative learning, and technology integration.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE...
- Learn about the history of toys and designing toys through websites provided
- Internet Scavenger Hunt about toys
- Research a toy
- Photos of visit to a local toy store
- Interview with owner or manager of toy store
- Take a survey to learn about favorite toy categories - graph results
- Create questions for business survey - record results
- Questions about starting a toy store
- Choose a name, logo and slogan for your toy store
- Design a store front (use my template or design your own)
- Create your own business plan (company overview)
- Design a flyer to advertise your store - this can be done on the computer or on a blank sheet of paper - make sure to include important info about your store
- Design business cards
- Create coupons for your toy store
- Inventory (choice of using a spreadsheet)
- Plan social media for your toy store
- Use a spreadsheet to take orders.
- Greatest Toy Ever Graphic organizer
- Greatest Toy Ever writing activity
- Additional ideas
- Toy word problems for centers or differentiation.
- Additional pages for store front and advertising (these activities are from a money unit I have in my store)
Teachers love this activity because it can easily be adapted for enrichment or gifted students in other grade levels.
