Description

This project guides students through the engineering design process to design and build a circuit box. This is best done as a culminating activity after students have learned about series and/or parallel circuits. As long as students have the supplies needed, this can be done in class or at home in groups, pairs, or individually.

Each project will need:

  • A cardboard box
  • Supplies to decorate
  • Christmas lights cut with ends stripped
  • Electrical tape
  • Electrical wire about 4-8 inches long with ends stripped
  • 9 V battery
  • 1 washer
  • 1 paperclip

My students really enjoyed this project. The Circuit Box Design Project is a stellar example of hands-on, practical learning that not only reinforces theoretical concepts but also fosters creativity and critical thinking. As an educator, I found this project to be an exceptional culminating activity, especially following lessons on series and/or parallel circuits. The strength of this project lies in its adherence to the engineering design process.
