Description

Help students master the vocabulary behind the standards with this word sort! Students sort the vocabulary words, including Direct Quote, Cite, Text Evidence, Dialogue, and Inference. Cards include the name of each element, a definition, and an example. A generic example and examples from three popular books are included!

Updated 8/2016 to include bolded words to help students identify which portion of the text they are focusing on and to align parenthetical citations with MLA format.

These vocabulary words support the following CCSSs:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.5.1 Quote accurately from a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.1 Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
