Description

This is a great activity that delves into the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960's. It goes through topics such as the Supreme Court case Brown vs. Board of Education, integration in schools, and the Montgomery bus boycotts. The reading also focuses on Civil Rights leaders such as Thurgood Marshall, Rosa Parks, Claudette Colvin and Martin Luther King Jr. Along with the reading, this activity includes reading comprehension questions, new vocabulary words, and a critical thinking question that ties the content to the real world.

Included in each reading is a graphic organizer that can be used along with the reading comprehension questions, or it can be used in place of the questions. I've found the graphic organizers to be extremely helpful for my lower level students.

There are 3 separate readings in this activity. The titles of each reading are as follows:

1) The Civil Rights Movement

2) The Struggle Continues

3) The Rights of Others
