About the store
I have a wide range of teaching experience which helps me adapt curriculum for all learners. I first taught Pre-K for 1 1/2 years right after college. Then I moved to South Carolina and taught traditional 5th grade 2 years, Primary Montessori (1st-3rd grade) 2 years, and Upper Elementary Montessori Sc/SS (4th-5th grade) for 1 year. Since I've returned to Georgia, I taught 2nd grade for 3 years in my current school system before moving back to 5th grade for the 8 years in a row. *Update-in June 2018 I decided to move to Asheville, NC on a whim and am teaching 5th grade again!

Teaching style

Having a short attention span myself, I try to keep things interesting!! I do not make rigid lesson plans. I'm more of a day-to-day, "fly by the seat of my pants" teacher. Naturally, I use our local and state standards and the Common Core to guide my instruction! I do not like to use lots of traditional textbook/workbooks. Students really respond well to technology so I try to incorporate lots of it! I am a huge music lover so I come up with every opportunity I can to add that to my lessons, too!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was awarded a $2,000 grant from the state of South Carolina to purchase Science materials. It was my first attempt at grant writing so I was pretty proud of myself! I also won first place in our school Cupcake Wars during the 2013-2014! 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year Finalist Gwinnett County Social Studies Leadership Team I'm also a Flocab MC Educator, which means I am a brand ambassador for flocabulary.com!

My own education history

I attended Auburn University, Georgia Perimeter College, and graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I also did some graduate work in the area of Montessori education at Lander University in South Carolina. I am ESOL and Gifted Certified.
