Description

Hello there! I am a Class Dojo mentor and ambassador. I have been given permission to create Class Dojo resources to share with you.

Do you use Class Dojo? If so, why not hand out an award at the end of the month for students who maintained 80% or higher positive behavior? Or at the end of each week? Or for students working towards individual goals?

If you don't use Class Dojo, let me take a moment to tell you about it. Class Dojo is a FREE teacher classroom management tool and oh-so-much-more! Class Dojo records positive and negative (needs work) behaviors as a great form of documentation all at the push of a button. Earlier this year I had a student who wouldn't stop singing in the bathroom so I made a needs work point titled "singing in the bathroom during instruction" and with the click of a button or push of a finger (via the phone app), I was able to give her a negative point. Her parents were able to see the behavior points and talk with her about the rules. Oh, about that... parents sign up to join Class Dojo too! They can check in on their child's behavior at any time of the day to better support their children and the teachers! Best of all, I think, is the messenger section of the app. Via my phone I can send pictures to parents or whole-group or private messages to parents. Once word gets around that they can "text" the teacher at any time during the week more and more parents will join Class Dojo! I currently have all but 6 of my 30 students signed up!! :)

As you can see, I am quite passionate about Class Dojo! Why? Since using Class Dojo my student's behavior has improved dramatically! I am able to spend more time teaching and working with students and less time correcting behavior. My students are more engaged than ever as a result of wanting those participation points. Since I take our Dojo with us to the library, computer lab, field trips, assemblies, and more (on my phone), I often have the best behaved class. I just flash Dojo and BOOM behavior is in check and all is right with the world.

This is a great way to reward students for achieving specific goals. I am using it to reward students who meet or exceed their MAP growth score.

These are great for our school wide student of the month assemblies. I have a skill we focus on each month and whoever gets the most dojo points on that skill wins this lovely Dojo award!
