"This was a super easy, no-prep way to teach elements, compounds, and mixtures. The doodle notes and PowerPoint kept things clear and visual, and my students really got into it. I liked having the worksheet and quiz ready to go."

Description

This NO PREP lesson includes everything you need to teach the fundamental classification of matter (elements, compounds, and mixtures). This product includes three versions of doodle notes (fill-in, blank, and teacher key), a visually appealing, editable PowerPoint, and a worksheet that can be used for in-class review or homework. Bonus: This product also includes a quiz that can be used for formative or summative assessment!

This lesson teaches students how to distinguish between pure substances and mixtures. This lesson also teaches students to further classify matter as an element, compound, heterogeneous mixture, or homogeneous mixture. Multiple particle-level and macroscopic examples are provided for students.

Why use doodle notes?

The doodle note strategy helps students maximize focus, learning, and retention through the combination of text and images. Studies have shown that students learn best when they are engaged, and doodle notes provide a meaningful way for students to interact with content by adding color, notes, embellishments, and doodles.

This gave every opportunity for students to use color and images to make connections between concepts. It is well organized, covers the big ideas, and the comprehension checks spaced throughout the presentation were helpful.

My kids love doodle notes - I do wish it had a little more detail (like monatomic and diatomic, etc). However, it was very well done and engaging.
