Classifying Mentor Texts for Writing Lessons that Differentiate Instruction
Share

Description

Just about every writing lesson I use is connected somehow to a favorite mentor text (or "touchstone text"). Published mentor texts provide inspiration for student writers, and using them very well during instruction can inspire original ideas from your students as well as inspire them with new skills to try using during revision.

I have taught writing to just about every grade level, and I have also taught in-service workshops to thousands of fellow educators. When talking about mentor texts and lesson, these are two resources I share: a one-page handout and a PowerPoint (saved here as a PDF)

Be sure to see the links on the cover-page of the PDF-ed PowerPoint; they will assist you in finding the complete product that we offer for sale at our popular website: ALWAYS WRITE!

Great resource! It was easy to implement, engaging for students, and supported the learning objective well. I would recommend this to other teachers.
