In this activity, students will:
- classify polynomials by degree and number of terms
- simplify an algebraic expression by multiplying a monomial by a polynomial
- combine like terms
WHAT ARE BOOM CARDS?
Boom Cards offer an interactive, self-checking approach to practice a variety of skills. You can assign these Classifying and Multiplying Polynomials Cards to your students OR you can provide them with a Fast Play link (free version option). Boom Cards are hosted on the Boom Learning website. An additional teacher account must be created to use these.
Prior to completing these cards, students should have received instruction over classifying polynomials both by DEGREE and NUMBER OF TERMS. Students should also know how to simplify an expression by multiplying a monomial by a polynomial and combining like terms.
CARD TASKS ARE OUTLINED BELOW:
- Cards 1 - 9 require the students to classify a given polynomial by degree and number of terms (activity: Drag and Drop)
- Cards 10 - 15 require the students to simplify an expression by multiplying a monomial times a polynomial (activity: multiple-choice)
- Cards 16 - 19 require the students to identify the step in the simplifying process in which an error was made (includes multiplying a monomial times a polynomial and combining like terms). This is considered Error Analysis. (activity: multiple-choice)
- Cards 20 - 23 require the students to determine the exponent for each variable when multiplying a monomial by a polynomial (activity: fill-in-the-blank)
