Description

This climate research project will teach your students about some of the factors that make up a location's climate in highly engaging, student-direct way! They will select a location to research, research climate information, including: average temperatures and precipitation, storms, vegetation, seasons, and geography. They will also explain the difference between weather and climate. After researching, they will complete either a poster or slideshow to present their climate findings.

Teaching Time: This will take your students a few hours. I would suggest approximately one week's worth of Science classes.

Written for grades 5 or 6. May be appropriate for grades 4 or 7.

This 4 page download includes:

  • Step-by-step instructions for students
  • A notes organizer to categorize their information and lead their research
  • A marking rubric.

You will need:

  • Access to the internet or physical books with climate information for students to use during research
  • Either poster making supplies OR computers, depending on whether your students make posters or slideshows.
  • Either grid paper for students to make graphs for their posters, or the ability to show your students how to create graphs (I suggest using a digital spreadsheet).
