Description

Number cards designed to be printed on cardstock, laminated, cut and folded to be hung on a classroom clothesline. I use a piece of light rope with a loop at each end and I choose volunteers to hold the rope taut at the front of the carpet. I distribute the cards among the seated students. I ask them one at a time to come up and place the cards. At the beginning of kindergarten I call them up in order from 1-5, then we move on to placing the zero and five first and work to fill in the middle numbers in the correct order. Soon we move on to placing the zero and ten first. After we have that established, I place 1 or 2 random cards on the line and call them up one at a time to place their cards. It is important to create rules about respect when a student notices that a card may have been placed incorrectly, so as to ensure students feel safe taking risks.
