Description
Club 36 is an excellent way to increase math fact fluency. These sheets are my take on the practice! I made them full pages so that my students have enough space to write and check their work if they want. I also included 4 different sheets, for those students who like to memorize the order of the answers ;)
To use these sheets, I give one to each student in my class (I keep mine in plastic sleeves so I can reuse them). I instruct the students to start at the same time and give them a countdown timer for 5 minutes. After time is up, I read the answers so they can check their work. Anyone who can answer all 36 correctly is in Club 36. I also have a Club 12 and a Club 24 so students can see their growth as they memorize more facts.
If you are not familiar with Club 36, or don't know where it came from, it is based on the idea that multiplication can be mastered if you can memorize exactly 36 facts. These facts include everything from 2's to 9's.
0's and 1's are not emphasized because the Zero and Identity Properties teach those. 10's 11's and 12's are not included because once the student learns to multiply two-digit by one-digit and two-digit by two-digit problems, they can find those answers.
This concept can apply to addition as well so I have created Club 36 sheets for both operations.
