This was designed to go with my BlackKklansman unit in Film Studies, but can be adapted for a variety of films and print texts.
After viewing and analyzing the film, I have my students read the article 'BLACKKKLANSMAN' AND THE ART OF CODE-SWITCHING by Hanif Abdurraqib, published August 20th, 2018.
Then, we discuss the idea of code-switching, and they fill out this document for their own lives, in preparation for a discussion about HOW they change their language for various settings and people, and WHY they change it in the way they do. This activity asks for 5 different code-switches from each student.
