Description

Code Word Classroom Management Directions:

  • Print and slip this resource into a 'write and wipe pocket' or laminate it to create an easy dry erase surface to write the code word.
  • Use a code word to signal student movement classroom transitions.
  • Ensure students are aware of your expectations. For example, before giving directions, say "When you hear the code word, you may move...".
  • Students must freeze and cannot resume until you say the code word.

This classroom management strategy will proactively encourage students to listen and follow your directions carefully.

Tips:

  • Editable options are included for you to enter your class name and add your own bitmoji.
  • You may want to choose strategically choose code words to support students learn the countless frequently used words (sight words - eg. look, said, come)
  • Make a connection with a unit of work to highlight key vocabulary
  • Allow a student to choose the code word each day.
